GIBBON
Gertrude L. Sievert, 91, of New Ulm and formerly of Gibbon, died Thursday, February 4, 2010 at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm. Funeral service will be 2 PM Sunday, February 7 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Molkte Township, Sibley County with Pastor David Radtke officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 3 - 7 PM on Saturday, February 6 and will continue for one hour prior to the time of the service at the church on Sunday.
Gertrude is survived by daughter and son-in-law: Margie and Peter Erickson of West Point, Nebraska; sons and daughters-in-law, Harvey G. and Patricia Meyer of Gaylord, Robert and Terese Sievert of Gibbon, Gene and Mary Sievert of New Ulm; 14 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Clarence and Ruth Harbarth of Gaylord; several other nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Benjamin Meyer; second husband, Marwin Sievert; 2 brothers in infancy; granddaughter, Lisa Sievert; grandson, Scott Meyer and great grandson J. D. Sievert.
Gertrude Louise Harbarth was born on August 16, 1918 to Otto and Alvina (Podratz) Harbarth in Gaylord. She attended school at St. John's Lutheran School, Mountville and Immanuel Lutheran School in Gaylord. She was united in marriage to Benjamin Meyer in 1941 at Mountville. They had one son, Harvey Meyer born to them. After Ben's death, Gertrude married Marwin Sievert at Mountville in 1949. They farmed in Moltke Township, Sibley County until moving into Gibbon in 1979. Gertrude also worked at various jobs, Gaylord Hospital, Gibbon Ballroom, Hands Inc and GFW Elementary School.
Gertrude was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, where she was involved in the LWML. She was also a member of a card club and the Gibbon Senior Citizens Club.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials be given to St. Peter Lutheran Church or the donor's choice.
