NEW ULM
Joseph Tauer, 75, of New Ulm, died Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at his home in New Ulm. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 12 at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in New Ulm with Monsignor John A. Richter celebrating the Mass. Burial will follow in the New Ulm City Cemetery Soldier's Rest section. Full military rites will be conducted at the graveside by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard. Visitation will be 4 - 6 p.m. on Thursday and from 7:30 - 10:30 a.m. on Friday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. There will be a parish prayer service at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
Joseph is survived by his nieces, Mary and Randy Chartier of New Ulm, Connie Hopp of New Ulm, Judy Herring of Watertown; nephews, Daniel Hopp of Nicollet, Larry and Sharon Hopp of Mankato; great niece, Caitlin Chartier of New Ulm. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Linda Tauer on July 4, 1982; sisters and brother-in-law, Kathryn Maas, Genevieve Eisele, Doris and Walter Suess; nephews, David and Patrick Suess.
Joseph William Tauer was born on January 22, 1935 to Joseph J. and Cecelia (Donnay) Tauer in New Ulm. He graduated from Cathedral High School in 1953. After graduation he enlisted in the United State Navy in 1953, where he served over seas as a Destroyer Sailor attaining the rank of Radar 2nd Class. He was honorably discharged in 1957. Joseph was united in marriage to Linda A. Anderson in August of 1967.
Joseph served as District #1 Commander and also Senior Vice Commander for his VFW Post #198 in Chicago. He also enjoyed watching sports, having coffee at HyVee every Tuesday morning and his annual trip to Las Vegas.
He was a member of Cathedral, Seifert-Bianchi American Legion Post #132 in New Ulm, a lifetime member of George Harles VFW Post #198 in Chicago and the St. John's Court Catholic Order of Foresters.
