Vernon “Vern” F. Sievert, 76, of New Ulm formerly of Kenyon, Minnesota, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at the New Ulm Medical Center while surrounded by loved ones. Vern’s life will be celebrated at Valley Christian Church, Rosemount, Minnesota on Sunday, March 14. Visitation will start at 1:30 p.m. at the church with the funeral service following at 3:00 p.m. Burial will be Monday, March 15 in the Soldier's Rest Section of the New Ulm City Cemetery. Full Military Honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard. Minnesota Valley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Vern was born on August 10, 1933 to Frank and Clara (Huebner) Sievert in Minneapolis. He served in the United States Army from 1953 – 1955, stationed in Germany. He and his wife of 52 years, Corolie Keedy were married on June 9, 1957. The most important thing to Vern was his family and his Savior, Jesus Christ, whom he loved and served faithfully until his death. Woodworking was his hobby as well as his vocation. He was honored to serve the community of Kenyon for 30 years as a volunteer EMT.
Vern is survived by his wife, Corolie, their daughter Dena (Denny) Lindell and grandson Jordan Twining, their son, Craig (Laura) Sievert and granddaughters Kaia, Kellen, Brenna, and Mattea Sievert, his sisters Mildred Gafkjen and Evelyn Anderson and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Emil and Walter Sievert and sister Lydia Zemke.
